News from Dr. Rita
The title of this communication is clearly "Bits and Pieces" (or perhaps "Life in the Fast Lane") as much has happened at the school and there are numerous issues, decisions, and opportunities that are upcoming. Plus, the second half of a school year always races by at mach speed and this year at GSA is no exception!
On March 9th, the girls will present a poster session for their respective research papers. Each girl chose a topic, is researching it thoroughly, and will write about it complete with references. They are each designing a display to be presented from 2-3pm that Friday. This promises to be great fun as the range of topics is quite impressive. First grade is focusing on historical figures, 2nd on desert animals, 3rd on the animal of choice, 4th on Texas history, and 5th on the open ocean. Grades 6, 7, and 8 are still finalizing their topics at this writing.
The Girls' School has been asked to participate in the Safe Place Walk to be held April 14th. The Safe Place is a haven for those who are victims of domestic violence and this walk is their annual fundraising event. The school will be featured in some of the promotional advertising for this event which will help expand our name in the community as well as encouraging community service for our group. This event promises to be fun so plan to put on your walking shoes and join in!

The day-to-day activities of the school are difficult to write about but great fun to experience. There is nothing I like better than to give tours of the school. Every classroom we visit is active and interesting. I love watching the girls engaged in learning. I love watching the girls laugh and play with one another. I love seeing them create impressive projects and have fun doing them. I find it so rewarding seeing the girls grow and achieve in a supportive, nonjudgmental setting.
As they flourish in an environment that allows them to explore, enjoy and grow without the need to act and dress more mature than they are, it reminds me just how important true childhood is and how much it needs to be protected by the adults in their lives.
I guess it is just that I love GSA and the girls, families and faculty that make it a great place to be. I'm thoroughly enjoying my tenure here as Interim Head of School and intend to relish the next four months.
