Service Learning
By Maeve and Gabi, Middle School students

This month the 8th grade worked on three projects for Service Learning. On Thursday, October 23 we took a field trip to the Center for Child Protection at the Kozmetsky Center. The 8th grade, Ms. Ramberg, and Ms. Schmitt had lunch with Katherine Randow, the Head of Business, and Sandra Martin, the Chief Executive Officer for the center. Then Katherine took us on a tour through the facility. We are planning to work on a project with them called the Kids' Room, a room that needs to be stocked with supplies for children in need.
This year the 8th grade got the whole school involved in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. Members of every class trick-or-treated, and the 3rd and 4th grade math classes counted up the money and reported the results to the school at Community Meeting. As a school we raised over $500 for UNICEF. The class that raised the most per capita was the 8th grade, with an average of over $10 per person.
We have also successfully pulled off two knitting days. Students, parents, faculty and friends of the school have knit over 40 hats for babies in need. Awesome job, knitters! Our next Knit In will be November 23 from 12:30 - 3:00.
