World Have Your Say
By the 8th Grade

On November 21st the 8th Grade took a trip to the KUT Austin City Limits studios to be in the audience of a live taping of the BBC program World Have Your Say. Millions of people everywhere were listening to the show. World Have Your Say is a show that broadcasts all over the world and invites individuals to comment on a variety of current event-based topics. People discuss ideas and concerns, and share their opinions, from all areas of the globe.
The topic on November 21st was a report that projected the United State's decline as a world power in the future, and the emergence of Russia, India, and China as global superpowers. The show was mostly audience-driven, with occasional prompting questions from the host. People called in from all different countries to have their say, and opinions were posted on the BBC's blog and read throughout the broadcast.
At the beginning, we were all shy, but as the conversation progressed, we thought of several points we could have made. As the broadcast neared its end some of us even raised our hands to express our opinions on air, but time ran out before we could speak. Maeve and Gabi did get to read two emails that were sent in, and we continued our own conversation in the classroom back at GSA.
This was a wonderful experience and a very interesting conversation! Thanks to Miss Grey for suggesting we go and also coming with us, Ms. Ramberg and Ms. Zeugin for taking us, and Jim Reese for making us CDs of the experience.
