Admissions
By Frances Ramberg

As I've written before, we're trying a new admissions process for Kindergarten this year. On Saturday, January 10, we had our first prospective Kindergarten play day. 15 four- and five-year-olds spent an hour and a half with Mrs. Hayden and Coach Sparks, playing together and trying out Kindergarten activities. Meanwhile, parents gathered in the 4th grade room to talk about the transition from preschool to Kindergarten with GSA teachers and parents. Mrs. Brewer, Mrs. Buckley, Angela Nix, and Shanna Prewitt talked about the Kindergarten day, homework, parent involvement, and The Girls' School community. Mr. Bonneau commented on the integration of the arts into daily life.
This event was extremely successful. The girls loved being Kindergarteners for the morning, and prospective parents have overwhelmingly told me how useful the panel was. It was a treat for me to listen to the comments and insights shared by GSA parents and teachers, and to be reminded once again what a special place we have created here at The Girls' School. It is important to note that this event worked as well as it did because of the commitment and effort of our teachers and parents. We'll host a second play day on January 31 with a slightly different line-up on the panel.
