6th Annual Self Portrait Show
By nancy Hoover

Over 300 students, families and friends attended our opening reception at the marvelous Maranda Pleasant Gallery on April 25th! It was a fabulous celebration of our talented GSA community. The work of the girls and art teacher Mrs. Hoover was inspiring, and looked impressive in this professional setting. The Honors Orchestra, directed by Mr. Bonneau, performed with grace in the gallery, and added to the wonderful spirit of this special event.
Many thanks to Maranda Pleasant for the use of her gallery; Ali Garnel for coordinating the reception; Dick Hoover and Eric Garnel for engineering and operations; Sharon Zeugin for artistic input; Sylvia Sanchez for labels; Scott Collier, Angela Nix and Elizabeth Chapin for the wine; Suzanne Quinn for water and ice; Stephanie Stelmach for the fruit platter; Suzanne Luftig and Nathalie Daude Laurents for desserts; Susan Hura, Paul Sherman, Gary Poole, Felisha Hooks, Elizabeth Pecore, and Becki Mendivil for appetizers; and Cindy Fortress for the beautiful flowers. Bravo!

GSA and AVEDA for Earth Day!
In the aftermath of a busy art weekend for our community, GSA again rose to the occasion with a fabulous Earth Day partnership with the AVEDA Center at Barton Creek Mall reception on Sunday, April 26th.
About 40 GSA families and countless spectators enjoyed the 8th grade Strings Ensemble, which, with support from the 7th grade and Mr. Bonneau, performed their repertoire of favorites. People bid on our students' beautiful environmental paintings to raise money for the Gulf Restoration Project. The "Floating Art Gallery" display is up at the AVEDA Center until May 1st, when bidding will close.
AVEDA thanked our student participants with lavender plantings for our school gardens.
