GSA Garden Beds

In the last remaining weeks of summer, the GSA garden beds were built. Now they are home to more vegetables and plants than one normally sees at a weekend farmer's market. Middle school classes are working hard to sow, water, and grow a variety of plants that flow onto the school grounds nearly every day. Fifth graders mapped out their garden, decided on which kinds of vegetables and herbs they wanted, and went to town. Currently, we have turnips, kohlrabi, spinach, and herbs rising up from seed. We are also watching our transplants grow.
The sixth graders planted their raised bed with one plant per each square foot. The result is a wonderfully crowded bed with such veggies as cauliflower, broccoli, tomatoes, kale, and peppers. The cooler weather and watering assistance from girls who arrive early to GSA has made for optimal fall garden conditions. Stop by when you are on campus! The girls are hoping to get a feast out of their labor – and we will all want to be part of the bounty!
