Inspired by Poe
A few weeks ago the 6th grade humanities class submitted poems, stories, and drawings to the Inspired by Poe contest sponsored by the Austin American-Statesman. Ms. Heise received a package on November 16 with prizes for all of her students, and Caroline Ladd's piece will be published online November 18 on the Student Scene page of the Statesman and a select few will run in the Life & Arts section of the paper! Congratulations Caroline and the entire 6th grade for such great work!

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for... Poe?
By Trinity, 6th Grade student
In early October, Ms. Heise and the sixth grade traveled to the Harry Ransom Center to experience an unforgettable journey through the Edgar Allan Poe exhibit.
We learned how "Allan" came to be his middle name, and many other interesting facts. We heard from our tour guide about his troubled and tragic life. We also pondered theories about his mysterious death.
We saw letters hand-written by Poe himself, and many of great masterpieces. In class, we read "The Raven" and "Annabel Lee."
"It was very cool to see them for real," Luiza states. All seven of us submitted a drawing, poem, or short story into the Edgar Allan Poe Writing Contest, and are waiting to hear the results.
All in all, the exhibition was wonderful and will be there a while longer (until January 3) so be sure to check it out!
