Art Beat

The Art Scarf Sale was a sellout in two days – thanks in part to the biggest pre-sale response ever – with over 190 (by my iron's count!) crepe de chine, silk, velvet, and cotton scarves, hats, bags, and socks, all made by our students. Our proceeds were over $3,000 after expenses!
The 7th and 8th graders handled the marketing of the sale, as well as finances, display, sales, gift wrap, and security. The proceeds will benefit the Art program in quality supplies for our girls to create their future masterpieces! Thank you to everyone who supported this event – may your scarves be merry and bright! (And I promise next year to have more velvet scarves.)

In other Art news, the kindergarten, first, and second grades have learned the German art of scherenschnitte, or folded paper cutouts, making lovely designs and improving their scissor skills.
Third, fourth, and fifth grades are creating forest animals, pets, lizards, and objects in clay, to be fired and glazed in the new year. The sixth, seventh, and eighth grades are working at a feverish pace to complete their independent study projects for the Scholastic Art Competition in January.
All classes painted beautiful mixed media program covers for the GSA Winter Music Concerts, combining watercolor and acrylic for a stunning "Winter Trees" theme. I wish you and yours an "artful" holiday!
