GSA Students Show Off Their Work
Creative Writing Reading
During the evening of Tuesday, December 8 GSA's Creative Writing group read their work at a local Starbucks. Even though the sound of steaming milk and other conversations abounded, the poets and writers showcased their writing savvy. Sixth grade students Trinity and Luiza, fifth grade student Elaina, and fourth grade students Maya, Susannah, and Scout have worked since September on their pieces. Each girl bravely read in front of a supportive audience of family, teachers, and friends. Ms. Heise kicked off the event with an honorary reading of Olav Hauge's poetry, and also read an original work of her own.
GSA Art Exhibition at Texenza Coffee

GSA's Studio Portfolio Class, representing the work of our middle school, has mounted an exhibition of landscapes at Texenza Coffee in Tarrytown. The paintings, done under the direction of Art Director Nancy Hoover, were completed in just three hours, and are part of a larger portfolio this group of students has created to prepare for art competitions and high school admissions.
The inspiration for the paintings comes from the work of German artist Wolf Kahn, who was part of the New Impressionism movement of the 1950s. The idea of this movement was to fuse abstract and representative art, creating work that blended brilliant color with nature's hues. The GSA students were encouraged to express moods, feelings, and emotions in an impressionistic style that wove together unique and disparate colors. The result is a collection of very different paintings.
8th grader Tillie, who participated in the project, remarked, "It's interesting that even though we're all in the same class, and we all did landscapes, none of them looks the same." The exhibit is on display now through the first of the year at Texenza Coffee on 3110 Windsor Road.
