Community Service

The Girls' School encourages active participation in our community—on campus, in Austin, and around the world. Each grade participates in at least one volunteer project per year, and most participate in many more. Whenever possible, projects are linked to the classroom curriculum; for example, for the annual UNICEF collections, the 3rd and 4th graders calculate grade-level and school-wide collection statistics and then present them at a community meeting. Recent community service projects include:
- Micro-lending to a woman entrepreneur in the Philippines, through Kiva;
- The LIVESTRONG at School program and the LIVESTRONG challenge;
- Trick or Treat for UNICEF;
- Fall 2009 after school activities for 2nd graders at organizations like Caritas and Goodwill;
- Jump Rope for Heart, a fundraiser organized by the American Heart Association;
- Annual student artwork fundraiser for Earth Day at a local AVEDA salon; and
- Performances by the Honors Orchestra at several fundraisers for various organizations.
