Miracle Market Letter

Rowan's Kick-off Speech

Miracle Market Letter

Last night I attended the Miracle Market and somehow missed the booth sponsored by your school. At the end of the night I stood in line for ice cream with everyone else that had realized that it was the only booth still giving away food. Behind me was a young girl of about 11 with short blond hair wearing a long broomstick style skirt. To be honest, I hadn't really paid much attention to her until she spoke to me. "You would look so beautiful with a scarf, and I only have one left. It would go perfectly, and it's the only one left. I'm with the Girls School of Austin..."

She expertly delivered a sales speech that Donald Trump would have admired. She had approached me as such a confident young woman that her poise and ability to speak eloquently to the point completely blindsided me. I, being far less of a saleswoman and a social bungler by nature, clumsily responded that I had spent all of my money (which was true) and gave an awkward apology for that fact. I walked away kicking myself for not having instantly congratulated her on her presentation and praised her to anyone that would hear me. Unfortunately, I didn't even manage to hear her name.

In all of the ice cream fiasco I misplaced my husband. When I found him he had acquired a small bag. He was absolutely busting with the story of a very young girl who approached him and simply told him that he absolutely had to have a bandanna and didn't drop the issue until he had been 100% convinced that indeed he DID need a bandanna for our dog. My understanding is that they even took a picture of him with the young lady.

I am sending this letter in a spirit of both gratitude and congratulations. I can't remember the last time I encountered a child of any age that acted so brazenly intelligent in the face of so many adults, and I am having trouble describing how very impressed I was.
These girls have obviously been presented with a level of education that is far superior to the vast majority of alternatives.
Congratulations on and thank you for setting such a high caliber of youth loose in our community! Your students represented your school well last night and were a credit to the high standards to which they are obviously held.

Warm Regards,

Julie McCright Adams
