APD visits GSA

Last month, Lee Hernandez from the Austin Police Department visited the 3rd and 4th grade classes. Ms. Lee is a Senior Crime Scene Specialist in Austin. She came in to answer questions and explain her job. Currently, the 3rd grade is studying mysteries across all subject areas. They are reading mystery chapter books, writing mysteries, and making game boards. In Science, the 3rd and 4th grades are studying the field of forensic science. They are learning about fingerprinting, chromatography, and the states of matter.

Ms. Lee showed the girls different methods of fingerprinting and how she uses these clues in her daily job. She also brought her crime scene van to show the students the equipments she uses. The girls were able to look inside the van and ask questions regarding this field. The girls enjoyed the guest speaker and learned a lot!
