Art Beat

by Nancy Hoover and Meg, Middle School student

We hope you enjoyed our spectacular lithograph print show in the courtyard. The girls enjoyed discovering this unusual medium. In Sculpture we have experimented with weaving paper, yarn, ribbon and handmade looms and, quite possibly, have made a new cottage industry at The Girls' School!

We are now exploring the art and history of Botticelli's "Primavera" in pastel on metallic paper and Frida Kahlo's compelling self portraits. The techniques of these artists will inspire self portrait canvas in March. We are looking forward to participating in a competitive exhibition in March, sponsored by Jerry's Artarama (a great place for art supplies) - we will keep you posted.

All girls need to bring a good color photo (no cheesy smiles, please!), 3x4 view of your face slightly turned to the side, eyes looking toward the camera for their selfportrait studies.
