Art Beat
By Nancy HooverI hope all the wonderful clay creations made it home safely! It was one of our best experiences with sculpture this year.
We are making great leaps towards our Self Portrait Show, opening April 19th at Jerry’s Artarama. The girls have completed an advanced study of the work of Elizabeth Vigee LeBrun (France, 1768-1855), the favorite painter of Queen Marie Antoinette and the foremost portrait painter of her time. Our studies included quadrant drawings in pencil, shadow and light and sharpening our "seeing" skills.
We are now exploring our perennial favorite, Frida Kahlo (Mexico, 1907-1954),—her history, her inspirations and her fashion sense! The Courtyard Gallery is brightened by our aspiring designers!

The Middle School is learning a new technique in Art: linoleum cut printmaking. These beautiful and unusual compositions require skill and concentration; some of the finished prints will be available at our GSA Gala Silent Auction and will also be entered into a national competition.
