Bollards Installed in Driveway

Twelve steel bollards have been installed in GSA’s driveway to help protect our children during pickup and drop-off times. Board member Kevin Madison spearheaded this safety project after performing a safety analysis of the GSA campus. Bollards are steel posts driven into the ground and filled with concrete to help deter motor vehicles from entering pedestrian walkways.

Judge Madison stated, “I personally handled a case in Austin that resulted in the loss of a limb caused by a car that jumped a sidewalk pinning a pedestrian’s leg against a wall. This type of accident occurs with alarming frequency across the country. When I advised the Board of our driveway risk they took immediate action to correct this situation.” The twelve bollards that were installed at our school were sunk three and a half feet deep, which is more than twice the depth called for by industry standards (18”). This provides us with an added measure of safety for our community.

Judge Madison contributed $750.00 towards this project. The Boeckman, Vail, and Hotz families along with the PTO participated in the “Buy A Bollard” project by donating $200 each, which paid for four bollards. If you are interested in helping defray the cost of this project, please send a check to GSA for $200 and note “Buy a Bollard.”
