NANOWRIMO
By Megan, middle school student
This November, the sixth, seventh and eighth graders are writing for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in our Language Arts classes. We have one month to write a novel, and set a goal of a specific number of words such as 17,000 to 30,000 to 50,000 words! If you do 50,000 words, it is considered a small novel.
Novels can be of whichever topic or plot you wish; maybe you want to write about
dragons and castles, or something more original like elephants eating towns. I personally
think NaNoWriMo is fun because it is actually giving me time to write. Here
are some opinions from other students:
Mason said, "It is fun and challenges you." Ellie said, "You get a chance to be creative in words." Lily
said, "You can do whatever and you don’t have to edit." Jenny said, "You can express your thoughts and
imagination." Delaney said, "It’s easier than writing a normal novel." Ashley said, "NaNoWriMo is a way
to express yourself and also your story can progress as you want it." Keira said, "I think it challenges
people." Maggie said, "It’s inspiring and after this month I felt I can go on and publish my story."
