Art Beat
By Nancy Hoover
This has been a busy month for art class!
We have delved into the mysteries of Abstract Art and evidence of that project is hanging in the Courtyard Gallery with our expressionistic, textured and colorful paintings! Grades 3rd through 5th and the Middle School will be treated October 17th and 19th, to a field trip and specially created tour of the Blanton Museum’s Contemporary Collection. Many thanks to Ali Garnel and Sharon Zeugin, class coordinators, and the parents driving the girls to the Museum. Hopefully, this experience will enhance our understanding of this often debated style of art!
Kindergartners and 1st graders have designed their “dream house” and the other classes will soon be learning about blueprints and architectural styles. Wise and wonderful clay owls, by 2nd through 5th grade, will be on display, just in time for the return of Fall leaves, pumpkins and cooler weather. The 6th grade has sculpted beautiful masks and animals and has learned what can blow up in the kiln!
We have begun our journey in creating paintings of the Native American legend of the White Buffalo. It is our 2nd year to participate in this amazing event. More information is forthcoming but the exhibition will be on November 17th, 7pm, at Quattro Gallery. Mark your calendars!
We are also participating in The Choices for Children Art Show and Auction, benefiting orphanages in Bangladesh, on October 20th, at the Pump Project Art Complex, 702 Shady Lane, from 2 until 6 pm,—a special reception for our GSA artists and families! Other schools and organizations will be exhibiting with us. Please come out and support this worthwhile event.
