Newton's Apple
The science classes have become very skilled at juggling topics: they are simultaneously studying properties of matter, motion, forces, machines and the periodic table while gathering data and completing their science fair projects. Every day brings fascinating and sometimes unexpected information. It seems that touching an object interferes with one’s ability to remember it; ants clearly avoid electromagnetic fields (should humans?); and unlimited access to junk food makes mice into mini couch potatoes. More to follow soon...
Science, Engineering, Technology
For two glorious weeks the Science, Engineering and Technology classes went crazy dismantling old computer hard drives, keyboards, printers and fax machines. Our girls turned out to be pros with screwdrivers, levers and their bare hands. Monolithic integrated circuits and motherboards were examined, admired and turned into geek jewelry or cities of the future. It turns out that two keyboard cables tied together make an unbeatable jump rope. This was a LOT of fun and very educational! If the class can accumulate enough non-working appliances or electronic devices, they will be able to take things apart once a month. Please donate any junk you don’t need. The next project will focus on disassembly followed by re-assembly. THAT will be a real challenge!
