End: April 23, 2017 4:00 pm
Duration: Approx. 1 day 3 hours
The 15th Annual 2017 GSA Self-Portrait Show and reception will take place at The Girls' School of Austin, 2007 McCall Rd, Austin, 78703, on Saturday, April 22nd, and Sunday, April 23rd, from 1 pm until 4 pm, each day.
The theme this year is: "The Me You Don't See," inspired by the emotional and expressive works of Mexican iconic portrait artist Frida Kahlo, Edvard Munch ("The Scream" and other powerful works), and German Mid-Century artist Kathe Kollwitz (etchings and drawings expressing emotion and conflict).
Students in grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade have all created their beautiful and moving Self-Portraits in acrylic on canvas, painting themselves in joy, in thought, in sadness, and in silliness - showing a full range of human emotions.
There will also be an 8th Grade Retrospective Exhibition, with all of the class of 2017's past portraits from each year at the school - this moving Retrospective shows each of the girl's development - both in her art and how she sees herself in the world.
Their teacher, Nancy Hoover, will also have a show and sale of her work in the Art room.
The exhibition is open to all family and friends of The GSA, and to the public.
