2017 Summer Camps at The Girls' School of Austin

World Wanderers with Carla Hinojosa
June 12 – 16, 9 am – 3 pm 
June 19 – 23, 9 am – 3 pm 
For  rising 1st – 3rd grade girls/ $350 per week (includes supplies and field trip fees)

Become an explorer and join us for one or two weeks of hands-on cruising around the world! Each week we will explore a different region of our wonderful planet, diving into their art, music, food, dance, literature, language and traditions. In the afternoons we'll take a break for some fun outside. Each Friday we will culminate our week with a field trip to enrich our learning experience. Students may sign up for one or both weeks. Badgerdog's Creative Writing Summer Camp
June 12 - 30, 9 am - 12 pm at The Girls' School of Austin
For 3rd - 12th graders (co-ed)/$475 for three weeks 

Work with a professional writer in a fun, creative learning environment. Create poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, and learn the techniques writers use to connect with readers. Have your work published, meet writers your own age, and begin reading your work aloud. Registration

Art Camps 2017 with Nancy Hoover 
1 - 4 pm /$275 for each week

Artapalooza: June 12 - 15 for rising 1st - 9th graders (co-ed)
A different project every day to keep your creativity flowing (drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed media). Limit 15 students per class.
Painting Large: June 19 - 22 for rising 1st - 9th graders (co-ed)
Hone your art skills with glazing, new techniques and creative inspiration for stronger painting and interesting viewpoints on a 24" x 36" canvas. Limit 12 students per class. 
Art Intensive: June 26 - 29 for rising 5th - 10th graders (co-ed)
A challenging intensive for Middle and High School students, concentrating on all media works for Scholastic Art, competitions, portfolio and pursuing artistic dreams. If you can imagine it, you can do it! Limit 12 students per class.

Survival! with Anne Seekatz
June 26 - 30, 9 am - noon
For rising 1st -
4th grade girls/$220
Learn what you need to survive in the wild! Make your own sunscreen, learn to tie knots, cook with a solar oven and collect clean water. Along the way, girls will explore how adaptations let animals survive in harsh conditions. Registration


Art and Science: Outside the Box with Kristen Brewer
July 24 - 28, 9 am - 2 pm 
For rising 1st - 4th grade girls/$250

Highlights of this creative summer camp include: gymnastics, yoga, sensory art, science, water games and reading. As always we will enjoy a visit from our scaly friends at Austin Reptile Shows! Registration

SummerBots! with Janet Couvillion
July 24 - 28, 9 am -
For rising 2nd - 5th grade girls/$275

SummerBots will give students an opportunity to dig deep into engineering and programming concepts through the Lego™ WeDo and Mindstorms robotics kits.  Working individually and in teams, students will create a fully-functioning robotic system, testing their solutions using LEGO building bricks and modifying their designs based on real-life conditions. Students will deepen their understandings of forces & motion, graphs & data, and gears, motors, beams, & sensors. Additionally, class discussions will focus on ideas such as autonomous behavior, sensor feedback, complex systems, the engineering design process, and how vital robots are to our daily lives. This class is ideal for kids who enjoy problem-solving, making things work, and hands-on learning. Registration

Kinder Camp with Meredith Hayden
July 31 - August 4, 9 am - 1 pm
For rising GSA Kindergarteners/$220

Incoming GSA Kindergarten students can enjoy a week of fun while preparing for Kindergarten!  Get a sneak preview of what Kindergarten has to offer while also reducing any anxiety your child might have about the transition into Kindergarten. This camp will include art, outside play, language arts activities, kinder routines and new friends. 
Bring a lunch and no-spill water bottle to camp. Registration

Girls Tinkering Camp with Kristen Brewer
July 31  - August 4, 9 am - 2 pm
For rising 1st -
4th grade girls/$250
Build! Build! Build! Girls will conquer daily engineering quests. Campers will be introduced to tinker trays as an avenue for exploring creativity and questioning. There will be plenty of open-ended time to construct with Legos, K'NEX, Magna-Tiles, Zoobs, and other favorites. This week's activities are designed for the tinkerer in mind. Registration
