GSA Annual Fund

Thank you for your interest in supporting The Girls' School of Austin.
Contributions to the Annual Fund will be used to help underwrite the daily operations of GSA, including what it costs to educate each student. The Annual Fund helps bridge the gap that remains after tuition and fees are accounted for, ensuring excellence for all educators and students at GSA.
What is the GSA Annual Fund?
An independent school relies upon the generosity of its families and friends to provide an exceptional program and environment for its students. Many of the enhancements and unique programs (like music and visual arts) provided at our school are a result of each year's GSA Annual Fund. As is the case with fellow independent schools, without the Annual Fund, GSA would have to cut programs or increase tuition significantly.
We already pay tuition. Why is the Annual Fund necessary?
Tuition does not cover the entire cost to educate a child at GSA. As we noted in the solicitation, your daughter's 09-10 tuition and fees range between $9,200 and $10,500 but we will spend, on average, $12,000 on her education this year. The purpose of the GSA Annual Fund is to help bridge this gap in the current operating budget.
Why not charge the full cost of educating a student?
Fundraising helps keep GSA tuition accessible, provides additional classroom materials and opportunities, and keeps the school diverse and open to a broad variety of students. In addition, while tuition is not tax deductible, your gifts to the school can be fully deducted.
Why is 100% participation so important?
First, participating in the annual fund helps to teach by example the importance of giving back. It is an opportunity for every family at GSA to discuss philanthropy and share those values as a family.
Second, every family who gives takes ownership in GSA and is doing their part to contribute to the solidarity of our community.
Third, full participation makes a powerful statement to the larger community, including outside donors and charitable foundations that look for strong support within the schools they choose to support.
Does it matter when I make my pledge or gift?
Yes, it does! The Annual Fund is a line item in the GSA budget, and it helps with planning to account for all contributions as early in the school year as possible. Therefore, families are encouraged to make their pledges as soon as they can, but it is acceptable to complete payment at any time prior to June 30, 2010. Once you have made your pledge, you will not be solicited again for the Annual Fund until the next academic year.
I support the spring gala fundraiser. Why should I support the
Annual Fund, too?
GSA holds two fundraisers each year – the Annual Fund in the fall, and the gala in the spring. Both efforts support operations, and the gala also raises a significant amount for special initiatives. These two events bookend the school year and are intended to bring both fun and funds to our community.
How much should we give?
We hope you will participate at a level that is personally meaningful to you. Your gift, along with others, directly enhances your child’s education. Regardless of the amount, your donation is an expression of support and concern for the well-being of GSA. Every gift makes a difference!
Do you accept matching gifts?
Yes! Each year we receive several gifts which are matched by employers of our donors. We encourage donors to check with their employers to see if this plan is available for them.
Do you accept contributions of something other than cash?
Yes. We are happy to accept a gift of stock – please contact us for information about how to do so.
If you wish to direct your contribution to a specific fund or need, please contact Jenny Smrekar, Development Director, at (512) 478-7827 or by email.
